About Adult Aikido Classes

Adult aikido classes at Enso dojo are focused, interesting, challenging, and always enjoyable.  With our well-established base of instructors and senior members, you are exposed to several unique points of view which will improve your abilities tremendously.

  • Classes are focused.
Your instructors have to teach the main rule of any good martial arts class: protect yourself.  Through use of rules and etiquette, we successfully protect students from injury.  As self-defense instruction, it is paramount that all instructors provide with the best quality instruction possible.  You will be shown many different methods of self-defense, all of which must be efficient and practical to be useful to you.

  • Classes are interesting.
We try to present unique situations in every class.  Even when a class may seem repetitive, it is always with a different focus or intent.  This way, boredom will never set in.

  • Classes are challenging.
From a physical perspective, aikido can be quite active, or not at all.  Natural movement is very important, but beginners will often start with forced or excessive movement.  That is expected, and as training progresses, your motion becomes less and less contrived, and more relaxed.
From a mental/philosophical standpoint, classes can be quite challenging.  While we never introduce knowledge as "fact", we encourage students to apply lessons to daily life.  Sometimes, lessons cause us to face harsh realities we learn about ourselves, but those same lessons also teach us how to control those realities.

  • Classes are enjoyable.
To be honest, Johnson sensei probably wouldn't go if he didn't have a good time in a class.  Adults are treated like adults, with respect and care, but not with "kid gloves" either.  While we have rules for safety and etiquette, we also have a fun time during training.  You will never attend a class without hearing laughter or giggles.

Visiting Aikidoka
Enso dojo is open to visiting Aikido students who may need to fill the aikido "void" while on a business trip or vacation to the Twin Cities.  All visitors are encouraged to contact Johnson sensei before their visit, but it is not necessary.

There is a $10 mat fee per day and you will need to complete a dojo waiver once you arrive.  We hope you enjoy yourself and have a good time participating in an MAAF-style dojo.
