| So what did you all think of the seminar on Saturday? What was your favorite part (besides the antibiotics, Faith)?

| | I enjoyed the seminar a great deal. There are a few things I remember as noteworthy. I liked the simple iriminage that was shown in the first session. These days, iriminage is an enigma to me, I'm just missing the mark with it. This simple variation was something I could dig into and get a feel for. It made me smile at the karate portion, where the instructor showed locks and armbars that have names within aikido but do not within his style. I applaud him for reaching fairly deep to come up with some techniques that were related to aikido from what is very obviously a primarily striking form. The 'step on uke's ankle to roll him down' thing was nice, as was the point of it being effective but almost imperceptive to onlookers was a great point. "Oh my, officer, I don't know what happened. This thug looked like he was going to take a swing at me then fell over." The instructor who taught/demonstrated Haidong Gumdo (Korean sword art) was great. He was very friendly and had some interesting stuff to show. The combination of Japanese and Chinese influenced swordsmanship is quite a site. I would have had a hard time imagining it. Mostly, it was great to meet people from the other aikido dojos in the Twin Cities. I've met a few previously, but with this seminar I feel I got to meet some that I hadn't before. All were very nice and great to work with. It would be nice to do again, but we breezed over so many different things so quickly that I found I was left wanting for more exploration. Just means more training, that's all! |
